General
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for all of our services. We'll visit your property, assess the work, and give you a clear emailed estimate so you know exactly what to expect before we start.
There's no flat rate for tree removal or trimming because every tree and every property is different. The price depends on a number of factors, including:
Tree size and height - taller, larger trees take more time, equipment, and crew.
Species and wood density - some trees are far heavier and harder to cut and dispose of than others.
Location and access - a tree close to your house, power lines, fences, or other structures requires extra care and rigging, which takes longer.
Health and condition - dead, diseased, or storm-damaged trees can be unstable and need special handling.
Cleanup and debris removal - whether you want us to haul everything away, chip it on site, or leave the wood for firewood.
For trimming and pruning, cost also depends on how much of the canopy needs work and the reason for the trim (shaping, clearance, deadwooding, or health).
The best way to get an accurate price is to request a free, no-obligation quote. We'll assess the tree in person and give you a clear, written estimate before any work begins.
Stump grinding is usually priced based on the size of the stump and the conditions around it. The main factors are:
Stump diameter - measured across the widest point at ground level (see how to measure below).
Root system and grind depth - how deep you want the stump ground below the surface, and how far the roots spread.
Number of stumps - multiple stumps in one visit often cost less per stump.
Accessibility - whether our grinding equipment can easily reach the stump, or if there are gates, slopes, or tight spaces to work around.
Soil conditions - rocky or debris-filled soil can dull equipment and slow the job.
Many companies, including ours, price stump grinding by the inch of stump diameter, with a minimum charge per visit. Reach out for a free quote and we'll give you an exact price.
Measuring your stump correctly helps us give you an accurate quote. Here's how to do it:
1. Measure the diameter at ground level. Use a tape measure to find the widest point of the stump across the top, measuring straight across through the center.
2. Measure across the widest point. Stumps are rarely perfectly round, so always use the widest measurement to be safe.
3. For irregular or multiple stumps, measure each one separately and note them down.
4. Include the root flare if it's significant. If the roots spread well above the ground or the base is unusually wide, let us know - it affects the grinding job.
When you contact us, a quick photo of the stump next to a tape measure or a common object (like a shovel or bucket) is also a big help.

Yes. Tree work carries real risk, so it's important to hire a properly insured company. Tim McConnell Tree Services Ltd carries $5M liability insurance to protect you and your property as well as WSIB to protect our employees. We're happy to provide proof of insurance on request.
It depends on the tree and your goals:
Late winter to early spring (when trees are dormant) is often ideal for pruning, as it's easier to see the structure and the tree heals quickly as it begins growing.
Dead, diseased, or hazardous trees should be addressed as soon as possible, regardless of season, for safety.
Storm damage can happen any time — we offer prompt response for urgent situations.
If you're unsure about timing for your specific tree, just ask and we'll advise you.
Yes. Fallen trees, hanging limbs, and storm damage can be dangerous and need quick attention. Contact us as soon as possible if you have an urgent situation, and we'll respond as fast as we safely can.
That's up to you. We can haul away all wood and debris, chip branches on site, or leave the cut wood for you to use as firewood - whatever you prefer (we do not split into firewood). Let us know your preference when we provide your quote, as it can affect the cost.
Not every troubled tree needs to come down. Signs a tree may need removal include a dead or dying trunk, large cracks or cavities, significant lean, root damage, or major storm damage. Many issues, however, can be solved with proper pruning. We'll always give you an honest assessment and recommend removal only when it's truly the best option.
Getting started is easy. Contact us by phone or text at 705-957-7267, email at timmcconnelltreeservices@gmail.com, or through our website, and we'll arrange a convenient time to assess the work and provide your free estimate.
Yes, we work year-round through the winter. In fact, winter is often the best time for very large removals - with the ground frozen and the lawn dormant, we can bring in equipment with far less risk of damaging your yard. The one exception is February: because we're extremely busy through spring, summer, and fall with little time off, we generally give our crew a well-earned break that month. February also tends to be the coldest part of the year, which can be hard on our equipment. Outside of that, don't hesitate to reach out during the winter season.
We understand that tree work can be a significant expense, especially if it's unexpected, so we offer a flexible interest-free payment plan. We'll work within your budget to spread the cost over a 12-month period with no interest. If a monthly payment is missed or defaulted on, an interest rate of 2.99% applies. We're happy to walk you through the details when we provide your quote if this is something you're interested in.
